KALUNGA: CHARME BEMBE 

Belle petite sculpture "magique" janiforme et bicolore

D'après D. Biebuyck, ces sculptures représenteraient Alunga, un descendant de l'ancêtre fondateur de la tribu, porteur du grand masque heaume bien connu sous le même nom..... Nom que porte également leur société d'initiation

Les Bembe sont établis dans l'est de la République démocratique du Congo, au nord du lac Tanganyika. (Ne pas confondre avec les Beembe qui s'orthographie parfois aussi Bembe et qui sont un peuple du groupe Kongo)

Ils se considèrent comme les descendants des Lega dont ils sont culturellement proches. Ainsi, le Bwamè des Bembe présente beaucoup de points communs avec le Bwami des Lega.

KALUNGA: BEMBE Janus Amulet

Cute "magical" janiform two-tone charm figurine

According to D. Biebuyck, these sculptures represent Alunga, a descendant of the ancestor founder of the tribe, wearing the large mask mask well known under the same name .....
Alunga is also used to name their initiation society

They see themselves as the descendants of the Lega of which they are culturally close. The Bwamé of the Bembe has much in common with the Bwami of the Lega
At the same time, they have other secret associations such as Elunda and Alunga, whose mask helmets are well known by Congo art lovers.
