CONGO DRC

Stunning Alunga Fetish Stool
BEMB

This kind of stool seems extremely rare

Apart from the one illustrated in "100 Peoples", pages 10 and 11 figure 13 and two other copies listed in the database " African Heritage Documentation & Research Center NPO" by Guy Van Rijn, I do not know of any
This one seems to be quite old.
According to Marc Léo Félix, these fetish stools, decorated with representations of Kalunga were kept in the meeting house of the Karunga society

The Bembe are established in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, north of Lake Tanganyika. (Not to be confused with the Beembe who are sometimes also spelled Bembe and who are a people of the Kongo group)

They consider themselves as the descendants of the Lega to whom they are culturally close. Thus, the Bwamè of the Bembe has many points in common with the Bwami of the Lega.
At the same time, there are other secret associations like the Elunda and the Alunga whose helm masks and janiform charms are well known to lovers of African art
