LARGE CULTURAL STATUE  LUBA


Very beautiful sculpture, powerful
She brings together most of the characteristics of Luba art, firmly planted on her legs, serene, her hands on her shoulders, scarifications
The shoulders are spread out
The face is darker than the rest of the statue, a characteristic that is sometimes found among the Eastern Lubas, among the Hemba, also

It would have been carved in a workshop in the Lukuga region

Another peculiarity is the representation of the hairstyle, seen from the front, which gives the statue an almost solar aspect.

The Luba are a large people of eastern DRC.

Their seats with caryatids, their carriers of cups, staffs of chiefs, arrow holders, adzes and cult statues are very famous and among the most prized objects in African Art.
