This superb seat has incredible similarities to that of William Burton, sold by Sotheby's in 1991, and photographed in the field in the 1920s,

Exceptional LUBA caryatid stool - Congo DRC
I discovered the similarities between this Luba stool and the William Burton's one, sold by Sotheby's in 1991 and field photographed in the 1920s by consulting the blog of Bruno Claessens (I recommend to all Tribal Art Lovers to go for a walk, it's a gold mine )
Their local name is Kipona or Kihona
The Luba are a great people in eastern DRC.
Their caryatid seats, their cup holders, chiefs' sticks, arrow holders, adzes and ancestral statues are very famous and among the most valued objects in African Art.
