Impossible not to compare it to the iconic statue from the Schindler collection, sculpted by the Master of "Kimano Le Vieux" and illustrated in "Mains de Maître" (p201) and in "The Tribal Arts of Africa" (p154), or to the one on display at the Metropolitan, attributed to the same hand

Bernard de Grunne: "It has been suggested that the great Boyo ancestor statuary would form the archetype of the Luba / Hemba arts by its remarkable plastic quality which mixes the monumental refinement of the Hemba statues, the spherical volumes of the head specific to the Luba and the cubist expressionism of the great magic statuary of the Songye" (Hands of Masters, page 184)
