Large royal ancestor statue
BOYO BUYU
One cannot help comparing it to the iconic statue from the Schindler collection, sculpted by the Master known as "Kimano Le Vieux" and illustrated in particular in "Mains de Maître" (p201) and in "The Tribal Arts of Africa " (p154), or the one exhibited at the Metropolitan, attributed to the same hand
The extraordinary style of these very old works has been perpetuated by the Master known as "Kimano the Younger", and obviously by other talented sculptors.

Bernard de Grunne: "It has been suggested that the great statuary of Boyo ancestors would form the archetype of the Luba / Hemba arts by its remarkable plastic quality which blends the monumental refinement of the Hemba statues, the spherical volumes of the head specific to the Luba and the expressionism cubist of the great magic statuary of the Songye " ( Master hands, page 184)
Probably from the Baki Hanga clan, according to "Master Hands"
And from the Basumba sub-tribe according to " The Tribal Arts of Africa "

The Boyo, or Buyu live in eastern Congo
They are known for their effigies of royal ancestors called Mizimu or Misi
