BEAUTIFUL BAOULE STYLE MASK

Attributed to SIKIRE KAMBIRE (1896-1963)

Thiteldhaar (Master Sculptor Lobi)

This artist is one of the few African sculptors active at the beginning of the 20th century whose reputation has survived time.

Considered by some to be the best and most talented Lobi carver, he was trained in a renowned school known as Gbökho Gbaläthi by a grand master named Okuena.
Its activity is confirmed from 1914 to the beginning of the 1940s
he fell ill around 1942 µ (Djeto! Pay Attention!, Daniela Bognolo, 1997, Journal des Africanistes, tome 67 fasc 1)
Thomas Keller dedicated a book to him in 2012

Mask similar to H25 and H26 masks pages 55 and 60 in Lobi Statuary (see bibliography)
The attribution of this mask to the artist is practically beyond doubt.
The works of his followers, of his workshop are very different
