Extremely rare !
HEMBA anthropomorphic mask
Very beautiful anthropomorphic Hemba mask which gives off an impression of majesty and great serenity, which characterizes the Niembo style
Very rare, too, I have only encountered in this style the mask from the Mestach collection, illustrated in "Face of the Spirits", in "L'Intelligence des Formes" and the one drawn in "100 people of Zaire" (p35n9) by Marc Leo Félix, who points out that these rare masks come from the south of the territory of the Hemba
The Hemba people live in eastern Congo DRC, between the Lualaba River (Congo River) to the west and Lake Tanganyka to the east.
Their territory revolves around the Luika River which delimits the Hemba of the north and those of the south. They are therefore present in the south of the province of Maniema as well as in the north of the province of Tanganyka.
They are geographically and culturally close to the Luba
