FETISH SONGYE KIFWEBE (Nkishi).
Nice little fetish, finely carved, the head is a female Kifwebe mask
large glass bead necklace

The rare works whose face is covered with a striated Kifwebe mask come from the south-east of the Songye country, from the Kisengwa region (Neyt)

Mankishi (plural of "Nkishi") are figures of power,
They serve as relays with the spirits of the dead, very present in religion...
They are used in "magical" rites serving the interest and well-being of an individual or the entire community. (Art and Power in the Savannah of Central Africa, p. 72-73).
