Imposing Male Mask Songye Kifwebe
The Songye created these masks, which are among the most impressive in black African art.
The male Kifwebe masks are true modern sculptures with very bold architecture, exuberant shapes and volumes.
They instantly remind us of Cubism.
The streaks that cover almost their entire surface would be a reminiscence of the labyrinthine journey that is the Bukishi initiation (Neyt, 2009, page 362)
