Superb
BEMBE mask
Eluba ya butende

Bembe zoomorphic mask (Eastern Congo DRC)
Architecture very similar to that published in "Masks in Congo" in 2016 and sold at Sotheby's in 2007

In this book, Pol Pierre Gossiaux, undisputed specialist of the Bembe describes them as ambiguous and polysemous Cwecwe "owl" zoomorphic masks, which can combine the traits of several animals (the mbogo buffalo and the tundu a, ntilope )

The Bembe are established in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, north of Lake Tanganyika. (Not to be confused with the Beembe people who are sometimes also spelled Bembe and who are people of the Kongo group)

They consider themselves as the descendants of the Lega to whom they are culturally close. Thus, the Bwamè of the Bembe has many points in common with the Bwami of the Lega.
At the same time, there are other secret associations such as the Elunda and the Alunga, whose helm mask is well known to art lovers in the Congo.
