Superb statuette typical of the Ubangi region

The eyes are upholstery nails, a necklace of white glass beads is wrapped around the figurine. Copper earring (one is missing)

The Yanda figures, with an abstract style and an indeterminate gender, represent the force, the spirits
These anthropomorphic figurines (also called Nazeze) belonged to the highest members of there Mani company. They were used in the divination rituals of this association, which could be compared to the cult of the Bwami of the Lega
The Zande live in northern Congo, in the Ubangi, along the Uele River
